Tips for Finding Online Jobs for Students from Home

Online jobs for students to earn money exist but you will need a few skills (not money) to get started. Before you start your online job search, keep in mind a few things:

  • Persistence is key. You might have to put in quite a bit of effort to find a job that fits your schedule and pays at a rate that is desirable for you. You might not get the first online job for students you apply for. Don’t give up – use the resources we’ve provided to find free online jobs for students that work for you.
  • Working online from home and earning money is still work. Employers will be paying you to do a job. So although you can find jobs that don’t require any mental power, the more effort you put in, the more you’ll be paid. Make sure you’re ready to do a great job for your employer.
  • Take time management seriously. Taking college or high school classes and working an online job for students from home can be lucrative. But if you don’t manage your time properly, you might find yourself skipping sleep or meals to keep up with school and work.Make sure you set limits on how much you can work so you don’t compromise your grades. Block out your weekly schedule so you’ll know how much time you have for work and school.

It’s a bit easier to find online jobs for students from home if you’re 18. The types of jobs you’ll find depend on the skills you have, but if you can drive, for example, there are a lot more online jobs available to you.

Here are some of the best online jobs for college students for working from home that we’ve found.

Surveys and Free Online Jobs for Students

One way to find online jobs for students from home is to take surveys. Companies want consumer opinions and they are willing to pay for people who want to answer questions.

The great thing about taking surveys is that you can work as little or as much as you want and it fits great with a busy schedule.

The way to earn the most money with surveys is to get hooked up with a variety of survey companies. That way you can always have surveys available to do and a good flow of cash into your bank accounts (though you can’t guarantee any regular income with survey companies).

Here are some legit survey companies I recommend if you’re looking for online jobs for college students:

#1 – Swagbucks

Swagbucks is a site where you earn points for the normal stuff you do online – like watching videos and doing Internet searches. You can also sign up to answer surveys on Swagbucks.

Advertisers want to get your feedback on their products and websites. And they’re willing to pay you for it.

Every task or activity you do on Swagbucks has a point value. Once you accumulate enough points, you can cash out for gift cards for retailers like Walmart or Amazon. You can even get cash payments straight to your Paypal account.

You can get started with Swagbucks by clicking here and signing up.

#2 – Survey Junkie

Survey Junkie is totally free to join. And it’s easy and quick to sign up, too.

Once you complete a review on Survey Junkie, you receive points. Once you have at least $10 in points accumulated, you can cash out for Amazon, Paypal, or other e-Gift cards. Even if you don’t qualify for a full survey, you can still get points for your time.

Whether you like online surveys, in-home product testing, or want to participate in focus groups, Survey Junkie’s simple and user friendly interface can help you earn points.

With some focused effort, you can add an extra $500 per month from taking online surveys through Survey Junkie.

Just a little bit of time daily in between college classes (I usually do survey activities while I’m watching TV or waiting on hold on the phone or in line at the store) and you can easily meet your extra income and side hustle goals.

Click here to get started with Survey Junkie.

Here are some other survey companies you can sign up with to make money while in college (just click on each name below to sign up right away)

#8 – Mturk

If you’re in college and ever bought a textbook, you know about Amazon. Well, Amazon also has a service called Mturk, which allows people to post small tasks (called microtasks) they’ll pay to have completed. It’s a great source of online jobs for students from home.

If you sign up with Mturk to do online jobs for students from home, you might transcribe a short audio piece, fill out a quick survey for a research study, or answer interview questions.

The tasks vary in difficulty. The more tasks you complete, the more activities that become available to you.

The benefits of Mturk are that you can do it completely from home and there’s not a set schedule – you just have to complete the tasks in the time frame specified by the customer. However, the tasks generally pay little – $0.10 to $2.00 generally – so you have to do a lot in an hour for it to add up to a significant amount of money.

But for a college kid who wants to earn spending money from a dorm room or home it can be a great option.

You can sign up for Mturk online jobs by clicking here.

#9 – Upwork

Upwork is a platform where companies can hire freelancers for projects. This is a great option for free online jobs for students.

If you have a skill, such as writing, social media marketing, or graphic design, you can post your profile on Upwork and freelance clients can contact you for jobs.

Check out Upwork by clicking here.

#10 – Fiverr

Fiverr is the perfect place to make money online if you have a specialized skill and to do online jobs for students from home.

Simply post the task you’re offering for sale (like reading a 3 minute script, adding audio to a video, or creating a short animated cartoon) on Fiverr. Then customers can order your services and pay you for your work.

Click here to check out Fiverr as a source of income.

#11 – AccuTran Global

This company hires online workers and contractors for realtime captioning, voicewriting, transcription, and other tasks.

To learn more about online work opportunities with AccuTran Global, check out their website and click on Apply for Work.

#12 – Clickworker

Clickworker uses data entry workers to complete small tasks such as writing, data entry, and translation. You’ll need to provide your own computer, but most of the time you can set your own schedule to work on your scheduled tasks.

For each task you complete, you’ll be paid a fixed fee – perfect source of online jobs for students from home.

You can also learn how to be a virtual assistant while you’re in college. A virtual assistant performs simple tasks online, such as social media posts, searching for photos for blogs, creating spreadsheets, and proofreading online content. Another great choice for free online jobs for students.

Search Engine Evaluator Jobs for College Students

Search engine companies want insights into how users are using their search engine to find information on the Internet. That’s where search engine evaluators come in.

As a search engine evaluator, you’d be checking to make sure that searches bring up valuable, timely, and comprehensive information. In most cases, doing work as a search engine evaluator means you’d be an independent contractor, not an employee.

Here are a few search engine evaluator companies that hire for work-from-home positions:

#20 – Lionbridge

#21 – Appen

#22 – Leapforce

#23 – iSoftStone

#24 – ZeroChaos

To get started with this income stream, you’ll have to apply to the companies and go through their testing process.

Most of the companies listed above hire people as independent contractors. Pay schedules vary, but are typically on a weekly or monthly basis.

Driving and Delivery Jobs College Students Can Do for Cash

#25 – Amazon Flex

Delivering packages for Amazon lets you be your own boss, earn money while in college, and offers a flexible schedule for college students.

According to the Amazon Flex website, you’ll earn $18 to $25 per hour making Amazon package deliveries.

To learn more about the program, check out Amazon Flex Get Started.

#26 – Drive for

If you have a car with you at college, you can make money driving for . These ride sharing services are super flexible, so if you’re slammed during finals week, you could tailor your drive time around your study needs.

The benefits of this gig for college students? The more rides you give, the more you earn. The downside is that you’ll be on the hook for expenses, such as gas and wear and tear on your vehicle.

.

#27 – DoorDash Jobs for Students

DoorDash jobs could be a great option for a college student who needs the flexibility of working from home. It’s a delivery service that allows users to order breakfast, lunch, and dinner from their favorite restaurants and have it delivered to their door.

DoorDash jobs make from a minimum of $10/hour and up to $25/hour (you can get tips, too)!

According to the company, to get DoorDash jobs you have to be 18 and have access to a smartphone and a car or bike to make deliveries. You’ll also need to undergo a background check to ensure the safety of their customers.

For more info on making money at college with DoorDash, click here.

#28 – Deliver for Instacart Jobs

College students cannot live on Amazon Prime alone. Sometimes they need fresh produce and cheese, and that’s where Instacart comes in.

When you deliver for Instacart jobs, you shop for customers and deliver the items directly to them from stores like Whole Foods, Target, Costco, and Petco. According to Instacart, you can earn up to $20 or more with tips during an average work hour.

Online Businesses That College Students Can Start for No Money

If there’s one thing that true, college kids are universally crunched for time. If you’re willing to do things other college students don’t have time for and advertise your services, then you can definitely earn money.

You don’t have to overthink this – simply put up a simple flyer on bulletin boards around campus with your phone number to get started. Once you have a client or two, you can ask for referrals to other potential customers.

Make sure you charge an hourly rate that covers any expenses.

#29-40 Here are some ideas for odd jobs college students can do for classmates or professors.

  • Start your own blog (learn more about How to Start Blogging for Money here)
  • Laundry services (pickup and deliver)
  • Grocery pickup services (great if you have a car on campus!)
  • Animal care services (some campuses have pet friendly dorms but you could also care for pets of off-campus students or professors)
  • Chauffeur services (take students without cars to the airport/train station, doctor’s appointments, or even home for a weekend)
  • Dorm cleaning services
  • Proofreading or editing services
  • Tutoring services for specific classes
  • Fast food pickup and delivery
  • Sign up to be a test subject in medical or psychological research at your school
  • Look for class action rebates on things you’ve purchased
  • Sign up for a cash back site for purchases (I recommend Ebates as a legit cash back site)

One thing to note about many of these online jobs for students from home: You’ll typically be working as an independent contractor.

As an independent contractor doing online jobs for students from home, you’ll be responsible for paying and withholding your own employment taxes and you typically won’t have benefits like health or disability insurance.

If you or your parents have an accountant or CPA you work with, it might be a good idea to discuss your work situation with them so you can know what to expect come tax time.

I have tried many of these for work from home jobs. Fiverr, SwagBucks, blogging, etc.

I think blogging, affiliate marketing and things like that is where it’s at in the long run. I think everyone should be starting their own blog in almost any niche they may be in. It’s just a great income source if you have the time and patience over time to really go through with it. Even if it just supplements your other job.

My newest thing is flipping cars. I actually had my best month ever last month. I flipped two cars and was able to make $3,500 profit. I would love to slowly but surely work my way up to having my own used car lot. Now that is one of my long term goals.

Hi Gary, I totally agree. Blogging offers a lot more control over your income than other sources, too. You are not as subject to changes from Amazon/Ebay, etc. Congrats on the car flipping! If I had a bone in my body that cared about cars, it would be a great way to go. There have to be so many deals out there. Good luck!
